How we got started

We established Blackbird Aesthetics in late 2021 after being approached by a local salon owner about adding aesthetic services inside her salon. After doing the research, we fell in love with the field and decided to do the training for injecting tox and fillers and open a medspa!

The longer we work in this field, the more we enjoy it.

Our goal is to use the medical art of facial aesthetics to empower all the badass women we know, and those we have yet to meet, to embrace what they see in the mirror, build their self-esteem, and celebrate self-care!

We want to empower you
on your
beauty journey.

The fear of looking fake or like you’ve had “work done” is real! We want to work with similar-minded individuals that are looking to appear a little younger, and more rested in a natural way.

Subtle treatments allow you to appear more rested and youthful without looking like you’ve had work done or without changing who you are.

I am a board-certified emergency physician who started an aesthetics practice in collaboration with a local salon owner who approached me with the idea. My journey into the aesthetics world so far has involved extensive research and training and led to personal growth while increasing my knowledge base and depth.

I'm in my 40s and seeing signs of aging; sometimes I think I look older on the outside than I feel on the inside. It's been an interesting journey being able to try some of these procedures on myself and seeing some of the changes and improvements to my skin and appearance.

I started performing some of these procedures on myself and my friends, and have been amazed and encouraged by the results. I have found that it is a way to bolster one’s confidence by using minimally invasive procedures to allow your inner beauty to shine.

I don’t wear a lot of make-up. I don’t dress up on a regular basis. Prior to last year, I had never thought about using injectables! I love emergency medicine, but it is stressful, exhausting, and draining, and the pandemic was especially tough.

The more I thought about it, the more I was intrigued by the idea of starting this business in facial aesthetics. I started training and quickly fell in love with the marriage of medicine and art that I found in aesthetics. I trained with my best friend Irene and allowed her to “practice” on me initially so I would know what it feels like to those getting treatments and be able to personally experience the results.

What I learned is that the treatments seemed to turn back the clock to help me look younger, more natural, and more rested - far from looking unnatural or fake.

I’m now able to use fewer skincare products and love how smooth my skin looks and feels. My beautiful friends allowed me to use the methods I learned on them to gain experience and fell in love with their results as much as I did.

The rest is history - I opened Blackbird Aesthetics in October of 2021 and have loved every minute of it.

What Drives Me

I love empowering other strong, hard-working women to feel better about themselves and the reflection they see in the mirror.

I have lived in the NC High Country for almost 13 years now and strongly believe in supporting local businesses, especially women-owned businesses, whenever possible.

I am extremely excited and honored to be able to open a local business of my own in this area. I look forward to collaborating with, supporting, and encouraging other local female business owners whenever possible through our services and offerings at Blackbird Aesthetics.

I am married and have an amazing daughter, along with an assortment of pets. Since 2009, I have served as an emergency physician at Watauga Medical Center in Boone. As an emergency physician, I have years of experience performing procedures and evaluating every patient and client on an individual basis. I’ve learned how to listen to each individual and understand why they are seeking assistance or help.

This ability to listen translates well into aesthetics and allows me to truly hear what each client is saying and meet their individual needs.

I enjoy working with my clients to achieve the balanced look they desire — my personal aesthetic is natural natural natural!

I have been a nurse since 2006 and a Nurse Practitioner since 2012. After working in the Emergency Room for many years, I moved on to work in Surgical Oncology in Augusta, GA before moving to Boone in 2013. Here in Boone I currently work in the Emergency Room full-time and I’m excited to start this new adventure into facial aesthetics. In my spare time, I love Crossfit, running, fine dining, and travel.

I never want anyone to look like they have had treatments.

I have personally had both toxin and filler. My favorite treatment on my own face is having my DAOs injected (also known as a downturned mouth). I have RBF, and a little bit of Xeomin in the muscles around the chin really helps to lighten my look!

Physician Assistant since 2000

I love that I get to help people feel better about being in their own skin!

I graduated as a Physician Assistant from Grand Valley State University in 2000 and worked in Lexington, KY until moving to the NC High Country in January of 2016 where I now work in hospital medicine treating patients with a variety of medical conditions.

I love spending time in the outdoors - hiking, mountain biking, and trail running, but my favorite time is spent with my four-legged fluff monster, Woody.

This work gives me a chance to meet with clients and learn how I can help meet their beauty goals. Each and every person has natural beauty and I want to help bring that out.

I also love making the things people don’t necessarily care for about themselves less noticeable. I am not in the business of completely changing someone’s appearance and making them look unrecognizable or fake, but instead enhancing those natural features that can use a little boost.

I feel that good skin care is an integral part of everyone’s overall health, and I look forward to creating trust-filled relationships with my clients to help them achieve their personal beauty goals.

I am originally from about an hour outside of Philadelphia, PA and moved to Boone, NC in 2019 with my now-fiancé for PA school. I graduated from Wake Forest School of Medicine’s Physician Assistant program in 2021 and have since been practicing as a Hospital Medicine PA in Western North Carolina.

I love working in internal medicine and treating patients with a wide variety of conditions but am also very excited to start this new endeavor in the field of aesthetics. I have always enjoyed the procedural, hands-on aspects of medicine, and in the field of aesthetics, I can use those skills to enhance my clients’ natural beauty and help them feel more confident in their own skin.

I feel that good skin care is an integral part of everyone’s overall health, and I look forward to creating trust-filled relationships with my clients to help them achieve their personal beauty goals. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, camping, and all things outdoors, listening to live music, reading, spending time with family, and loving on my pup, Penny Lane.

Making people happy and enhancing their beauty is my goal.

I’ve been in the medical field for 14 years with most all of my career in Acute/Emergency medicine. I am currently working full-time in the same day access acute clinic at AppFamily. I’m super excited to join Blackbird and start a new part-time adventure in Facial Aesthetics. Making people happy and enhancing their beauty is my goal.

When off work I enjoy hiking, watching football (proud to be a Mountaineer), and traveling. I have been married for 20 years and have one son.
