Frequently Asked Questions
About Our Contraceptive Consultation Services

  • Many clients have an idea of the contraceptive option that fits their individual needs before a consultation. All current prescription and nonprescription contraception options are available to discuss, including oral contraceptives (birth control pill), Contraceptive patch, and vaginal ring. IUD and Nexplanon placement is not offered at this facility, but a detailed review of these options is available with referral for placement.

Non-hormonal contraception, including Imvexxy, barrier methods, and natural family planning, can be discussed.

  • Yes, prescription contraception can be provided at the consultation if a client has no contraindications.

  • The best recommendation for finding the right contraceptive method is to start with a personalized consultation to review individual goals. Understanding facts versus myths surrounding birth control is important. Every individual has a unique response to various methods.

  • In-person one-on-one consultation is preferred for new clients. Virtual follow-ups may be an option.

  • In most instances, hormonal birth control methods are considered safe. An individual's personal history should be reviewed before starting any hormonal or non-hormonal birth control option. Individual risks, benefits, and alternatives should be reviewed prior to any hormonal or nonhormonal management start.

  • Yes. Long-acting reversible contraception (known as LARC) is very popular due to its effectiveness rates and ease of use. Understanding risks, benefits, and alternatives is important to have the best experience with a LARC method, which includes hormonal and non-hormonal IUD options as well as the Nexplanon device.

While IUD placement and Nexplanon placement are not offered onsite at Blackbird Wellness, in-depth consultation surrounding these options is available with referral for placement.

  • Emergency contraception is not available from Blackbird Wellness.

  • Understanding more about birth control options is the goal of this consultation. An individual who desires information on alternative contraceptive options is a perfect example of a client who could benefit from the contraceptive consultation.
